Key Art for Tony Armstrong’s Extra Ordinary Things

Ordinary Objects. Extraordinary Stories.

This show was all about Tony’s mission to unlock Australia’s untold history through ordinary objects with extraordinary stories, active, fun, quirky and occasionally emotional in tone.

I concepted a flat lay of curious objects as the hero image, symbolic of the diversity of untold stories the show explores, rather than the exact items used on screen. Once we got all stakeholders onboard, I briefed the prop artist to source interesting pieces within a warm palette of browns and reds, even bringing some objects in from home, building a composition that felt rich, tactile and layered with meaning. Shooting the flat lay meant capturing everything from directly above, so we brought in a scissor lift to get the camera high enough over the set.
