Role of a Lifetime
For a show exploring the complexities of modern parenting, I developed the concept, pitched it in, and got hosts Nazeem and Kate on board with the idea of shooting them half-submerged underwater - a visual metaphor for the overwhelm of parenting, surrounded by everyday kid-related objects drifting around them.
The underwater world became a way to hold two tones at once: the genuine depth and pressure parents feel, alongside the comedy of it all, through exaggerated expressions and relatable props. Convincing the team, and the talent, that submerging two hosts (and a floating cast of props) in a body of water was worth the risk took some doing, but it paid off in an image that instantly signals both the show's warmth and its wit.
Shooting practically in water added real technical challenge, from rigging and safety to timing expressions underwater, but it's what gives the final key art its authenticity and impact.
